Looks like the weather is not giving us a break yet. Forecast is 100% rain for Saturday; therefore, the meeting is cancelled.
As for the new runway. All the material is here! We are now waiting on suitable weather and to coordinate with everyone regarding the needed labor. Possible start date will be this month, the week of May 13th. We have a club from Fresno that will be removing our old runway and going to reuse it at their field. I have a contractor that may help us to install the new runway, and we need to coordinate with the land owner to help level the field before we install the new material. I will keep everyone updated.
Last year I applied to the AMA for a grant to help us pay for the new runway. I was hoping to share good new, but we were denied. Here is the response I received,
“Thank you for your recent application to the Academy of Model Aeronautics for the 2024 Flying Site Improvement Grant. The decision-making process was a difficult one this year due to the high number of quality, worthwhile applications we received.
Unfortunately, your club’s application was not selected for funding this year. This action does not reflect the value of your site improvement project. We simply received requests that exceeded our available funds. We appreciate the time and energy you put into preparing and submitting your application.”
Our next club meeting is scheduled for Saturday, June 1st. If everything works out, we may have our new runway to celebrate by then.
