TRCM April 2024 Meeting Mintutes

: TRCM Meeting Minutes, April 6, 2024

SECRETARY Al Doucette asked me (Dennis Campbell) to take the club meeting minutes for this month in his absence. There was no agenda for the meeting so I just took notes as the meeting went on.  So here we go.
The meeting was called to order at 10 AM by PRESIDENT, Mark Huntley.  We had 16 members present and two guests.
Announcements from the floor:
Don B. announced the pattern day event that  our club is hosting tomorrow, Sunday, April 7th.  The NSRCA members will demonstrate the sequences that they fly in competition. More information is available on our website..
Mark gave us a brief update on the FRIAs rules that our club is now flying under. We are no longer limited to the 400 foot elevation rule. We fly under in an uncontrolled airspace, so we can fly higher than that now.  More information is on our website.
There was an announcement and some discussion about the Kingdon RC flying field being permanently shut down.  That information is unofficial at this point.
We had two visitors: Zach D. and Jorge M.
Bill T. Was voted in as a new member today.
OFFICERS reports:
See above for the PRESIDENT Report.
Vice president, Neil Gates was absent.
Secretaries report, see above.
TREASURER Robert Kellar reported that we have 61 current members. He said the fabric for the new runway has been purchased and delivered.  He said that a club member asked him about possibly extending our shade structure.  That was tabled. He said that if you use PayPal to pay your club dues to make sure that you check the family and friends box or we will be charged a fee.  He said that we still have to pay about $200 for the paint to stripe the runway, once it’s down.  Also, about $1,200 for the spikes and washers to hold down the new fabric.
Safety officer, Nick Clayton was absent,
WEBMASTER Neil Gates was absent.
FIELD MARSHALL Randy Laney reported that the fabric is being stored in Tracy at a contractor’s yard until it’s ready to be put down. He reported that the Clovis club wants our old fabric, so we are donating it to them.  Mark said that his church youth group may help us with installing the new fabric for a donation to his church.  We will reevaluate the laying of the fabric later this month.  We are probably looking at laying the new fabric sometime in May.  We purchased ten rolls of fabric.  Each roll is 300‘ x 15‘.  We are going to lay the new rolls of fabric West to East. We will start at the West End and work our way to the East End.
Then Mark  and Robert remembered that another person was interested in joining our club. His name is Stan S. He was not able to attend the meeting, but he has done all the paperwork and paid his dues.  He was voted in as a new member today.
So we got two new members today, Bill and Stan. Welcome to the club guys.
Mark said the old business was the runway fabric job. Nobody had any new business.
Member Tim C. asked if the field was open to  turbine jets at this time. It was pointed out that the turbine sign is green, so that means turbines are currently allowed. Also, the turbine light on the website is green meaning the same thing.  Mark and Tim had a side discussion about TRCM, possibly hosting a jet rally this fall.  Mark brought it before the members for discussion.  It was decided that we would welcome that event, depending on the crop that was in the field when it’s time and its safe.
Show and tell:
Randy Laney demonstrated a staple puller that he fabricated. We can use it when it’s time to pull the staples out of the old fabric. Everyone agreed that it was a fantastic design and that should work well, when that time comes.
Ace award:
Randy Laney for fabricating a staple puller.
Oops award:
Randy Laney explained to us that he landed his 35% airplane in a crosswind short of the runway! I think it did more damage to his pride than it did to his airplane.
Thompson F. told us about his takeoff attempt in a crosswind. Much to his surprise it weather vaned left right into the fence.  He must be living right because the spinner went through the opening in a chain link, doing no damage to the airplane or the fence.
A vote was taken, and Randy Laney was the winner.  Yes, he took home two trophies today, the ace and oops.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:54 AM.
