Gold Rush Challenge
Wanted to take a moment to thank all the members that showed up to help. Without their support, it would be nearly impossible to run such an event. The weather was perfect with warm afternoon and nearly calm winds. Mosquitoes also were in abundance, but expected this time of year. As always, use a good bug spray when outdoors
Overall, there were 13 pilots flying in the Gold Rush Challenge contest. In no particular order they were: Dale Grant, Dave Miller, Don Brown, Jose Picazo, Ken Gregory, Mark Huntley, Matthew Morell, Mickey Crawley, Neil Gates, Nick Clayton, Rod Larmour, Scott Nathan and Steven Reynolds. These pilots flew a grand total of 196 judged sequences.
Jose Picazo won the Basic class. There were 3 pilots in Basic. The winning order was: (1) Jose Picazo, (2) Scott Nathan and (3) Rod Larmour. They flew 6 known sequences (3 rounds) and 1 unknown round. The scores ranged from a low of 3,635.1 to a high of 4,954.7 (a range of 1,319.6 points).
Dave Miller won the Sportsman class. There were 4 pilots in Sportsman. The winning order was: (1) Dave Miller, (2) Nick Clayton, (3) Dale Grant and (4) Steven Reynolds. They flew 6 known sequences (3 rounds) and 1 unknown round. The scores ranged from a low of 3,556.8 to a high of 4,997.4 (a range of 1,440.6 points).
Neil Gates won the Intermediate class. There were 3 pilots in Intermediate. The winning order was: (1) Neil Gates, (2) Mark Huntley and (3) Don Brown. Mickey Crawley won the Unlimited class. There were 2 pilots in Unlimited. The winning order was: (1) Mickey Crawley and (2) Matthew Morell. They flew 6 known sequences (3 rounds) and 1 unknown round. The scores ranged from a low of 3,843.8 to a high of 3,974.6 (a range of 130.8 points).
Mark Huntley won the Seniors class. There were 6 pilots in Seniors. The winning order was: (1) Mark Huntley, (2) Dave Miller, (3) Nick Clayton, (4) Dale Grant, (5) Don Brown and (6) Steven Reynolds. They flew 6 known sequences (3 rounds) and 1 unknown round. The scores ranged from a low of 681.624 to a high of 1,000.000 (a range of 318.376 points).
The tightest competition was for 1st place in the Basic class, with only 34.359 points difference between Jose Picazo and Scott Nathan.
