Our opt-in email system has been getting hit by spam in the last few days, creating a bunch of fake accounts and cluttering up our mailing list. So we took some steps today in an attempt to limit their success in the future. Now when someone registers to receive our emails, they will have to complete a verification step by going to their email account and confirming their subscription. I also added the attackers domain to our blocked list.
Hopefully this is enough to deter future attacks. If not, we may need to upgrade our service to a paid subscription with anti-spam protection. Let’s see how this works out first.
